Mary International Center “Mary of Nazareth"
The Mary International Center is one of the newest attractions in Nazareth and was opened in 2011. The center, located next to the Basilica of the Annunciation, offers visitors a fascinating audio-visual tour through the Holy Land and the life of Mary and Jesus. The center was established by the French religious community of Chemin Neuf, and has the backing of all the region’s religious denominations.
The Mary International Center is set on four floors in a converted 17th century building. Visitors can follow Mary’s journey through the Holy Land, including an hour-long show spanning four rooms that involves surround sound, wide-screen cinema and 3D effects, available in eight different languages.
Another highlight of the center is an outdoor viewing platform. This allows visitors to see recent excavations revealing the remains of an early Roman home, dated to the time of Jesus. It is said to be the first house of its kind ever to be found in Nazareth.
There is also an extensive roof-top garden around the center’s chapel, offering visitors a somewhere calm to wander through or to rest and enjoy the spectacular views of the Basilica of the Annunciation and Nazareth.
